Whitening Procedure

Laser dentistry is a relatively new technique and with only an estimated 5% of dentists having laser technology available in there offices. Laser dentistry improves the precision of your treatment while minimizing pain and reducing recovery time.
The precision with which a laser can hone into a particular target has given dentistry the potential to perform procedures with a greater control and efficiency on a focused area. Dental procedures performed with a laser are said to be safer and more comfortable for the patient.
Laser dentistry has many benefits. The laser uses a high energy light beam which actually coagulates the exposed blood vessels which inhibits blood loss and minimizes bleeding. The light beam also sterilizes the area that is being worked on which minimizes the chances of bacterial infection.
The laser pinpoints the area that is being worked on and so minimizes the damage to surrounding tissue. With little to no bleeding and minimal tissue damage, the wound heals faster and sutures may not be necessary. Certain procedures that use laser dentistry do not require anesthesia.
The introduction of laser dentistry has given dentists opportunities to perform procedures that were previously difficult or not possible to perform. Dentists who perform laser dentistry are becoming the forerunners in areas that had been unavailable to them.
In cosmetic dentistry, lasers can reshape gum tissue and supportive bone exposing the healthy tooth that was hidden under the gum. When the gum is reshaped, it provides a stronger foundation for tooth restoration. Lengthening a crown can improve a gummy smile into a more satisfying smile.
Low intensity laser may be used in the teeth whitening procedure by speeding up the bleaching process. Low intensity lasers may also be used minimize the healing time of cold sores. Benign tumors may be removed from the gums or palate or from the sides of the cheek in a suture free and painless procedure using laser dentistry.
Another use of a low intensity laser is also used to check for possible tooth cavities. Tooth decay gives off by-products. A laser reading of these by-products allows the dentist to detect cavities.
Dentistry is moving away from the old "drill and fill" days with the use of laser dentistry. Lasers are now even used in dental filling procedures. The use of a hard tissue dental laser eliminates the need of local anesthesia and does away with the conventional turbine drill. The laser is able to kill all of the bacteria that form inside a cavity and therefore improving long term dental restoration.
Laser dentistry; however is not the correct tool for the replacement of amalgam fillings or crowns.
The uses of low intensity laser or low level laser therapy (LLLT), are endless and can even be used to regenerate damaged nerves, blood vessels, and scars.
Laser dentistry is soon to become an industry standard. The benefits are many.
